BWIPP awarded Avid sponsorship to provide training for underrepresented talent
Black Women in Post Production (BWIPP) has been awarded a three-year sponsorship as part of the Avid Learning Collective program.
Black Women in Post Production (BWIPP) is a UK-based network of Black, Black mixed-heritage women and non-binary creatives working or aspiring to work in post production. Their goal is to bridge the gap to opportunities by offering networking, events and training that empower, inspire and nurture underrepresented talent. With existing industry partnerships like Cinegirl, NEXUS, Filming in England, The Edge Picture Company, and Cinemamas, BWIPP is committed to increasing diversity within the UK Film & TV post production industry.
Avid and the Avid Community Association (ACA) launched the Avid Learning Collective in 2021, an education and training sponsorship for organisations that serve underrepresented communities. It has been designed to broaden access to creative tools and leading industry software developed by Avid.
The three-year sponsorship includes membership in the global Avid Learning Partner (ALP) program, Avid Creative Tools software licenses (for Pro Tools, Media Composer and Sibelius), staff training and certification as well as course materials and certifications for students.
Each applicant organisation is assessed by a committee of Avid employees and the ACA Executive Board and must meet specific criteria to be considered for sponsorship. More details about this can be found on the application form here.
BWIPP Founder & CEO Jasmin John expressed immense excitement about receiving the sponsorship, stating, “This support is a game-changer for our community and the emerging talent following in our footsteps. BWIPP serves as a vital catalyst for Black women and non-binary talent, helping to close the skills gap and inspire more women to pursue careers in post production. We are profoundly grateful for this opportunity to advance our mission of increasing representation within the industry. It is clear that both BWIPP and the ACA share a commitment to diversity, inclusion and equal access and together, we will continue to nurture and empower underrepresented creative voices.”
Media Technology & Workflow Executive, and ACA Executive Board Co-Chair Marcy Lefkovitz adds: “The collaboration we have with Avid Learning Collective recipients ultimately shines a light on creatives and storytellers who might have otherwise gone unseen. We have a great opportunity here to not only bridge the tools and resource gap, but to connect people and communities to a larger network.”
